James Hale Harmon, Attorney
Get To Know Jim
“I’m trying to change the way people think about lawyers. I want people to feel they can talk to me about their issues. They can tell me their problems, be honest with me.
RELATIONSHIP WITH CLIENTS:
“I’m partners with my clients. I have a clear glass desk, to show there’s no division between us. Transparency is key in the attorney-client relationship. I had a huge executive desk for the first few year of practice, but then I realized it created a barrier between me and the client. Plus some items got buried in the drawers. I want to have all the issues front and center.”
“Settling a case satisfactorily and making the best of a bad situation—getting a certain level of justice—is the most satisfying part of my job. There are often compromises. I want to put the injured in the best possible circumstance.”
“The hardest thing is finding a balance between work and family, trying to balance those needs. I have three kids (in addition to a loving wife, three dogs and a cat) and I want them to feel like Dad was a factor in their upbringing. I keep toys and coloring books in the office for them my kids so then can play ‘office’ when they come to work with me on the weekends. These supplies are around when clients have to bring their kids too.”
WHY DID I CHOOSE TO BE A PLAINTIFF OR CONSUMER ATTORNEY:
“Helping the individual and the consumer felt better than a lot of aspects of law. My uncle, Tom Harmon, was a personal injury attorney; I would say he was a motivating factor in my choice. My dad was more of an inspiration in terms of emphasizing hard work and the benefit of applying yourself.”
“There’ll always be a few lawyers out there that are ‘smarter’ than me. But I will approach my client’s cases with aggressiveness, and still be nice, polite and the most professional.”
