Get To Know Jim

  • MISSION STATEMENT:

“Settling a case satisfactorily and making the best of a bad situation—getting a certain level of justice—is the most satisfying part of my job. There are often compromises. I want to put the injured in the best possible circumstance.”

“The hardest thing is finding a balance between work and family, trying to balance those needs. I have three kids (in addition to a loving wife, three dogs and a cat) and I want them to feel like Dad was a factor in their upbringing. Around 2006 I started keeping toys and coloring books in the office for my kids so they can play ‘office’ when they come to work with me on the weekends. These supplies are around when clients have to bring their kids too. The toys are still here for clients with children, but my kids have grown out of paying, now they come to the office to work!”

  • RELATIONSHIP WITH CLIENTS:

“I’m partners with my clients. I have a clear glass desk, to show there’s no division between us. Transparency is key in the attorney-client relationship. I had a huge executive desk for the first few year of practice, but then I realized it created a barrier between me and the client. Plus some items got buried in the drawers. I want to have all the issues front and center.”

  • WHY I LIKE MY JOB:

“I always wanted to be a lawyer. I love to go to court to argue on behalf of clients. I love developing relationships with clients. Most of all, working for myself allows me to be flexible and run the business in a way that helps my clients and allows me to be a good family man. I am available for my clients, but I still make soccer practice and the kids’s school events.”

  • WHY DID I CHOOSE TO BE A PLAINTIFF OR CONSUMER ATTORNEY:

“Helping the individual and the consumer felt better than working for insurance companies. My uncle, Tom Harmon, was a personal injury attorney; I would say he was a motivating factor in my choice. My dad was more of an inspiration in terms of emphasizing hard work and the benefit of applying yourself.”

  • THE LAST WORD:

“There’ll always be a few lawyers out there that are ‘smarter’ than me. But I will approach my client’s cases with aggressiveness, and still be the nicest and most professional guy in the room.”
